Indoor Cricket · Sitting in Second Spot

The Gidgegannup Indoor Cricket Club was established in 1996 and features many locals looking for a good social occasion and a chance to enjoy a semi-competitive game of cricket that does not require standing out on an oval in the midday sun.

Over time we have welcomed many a local player to come along and roll their arm over. This season we have welcomed Jeremy Salt, Tigger, and several others who play as work permits. And we currently sit in second spot. This coming week we play the Rum Pigs - a team basically made up of players who have played for us in the past, and are currently number one.

Agricultural Society · Update August 2016

We are putting the finishing touches to our 2016 Show Book and it will be going to the printers shortly. Once printed it will be widely distributed to give our exhibitors plenty of time to organise their exhibits for this year's show. This year our show book will look back in history at some of the events and people that have been involved since the show began in 1946.

This year our 70th Anniversary Show will be officially opened by Mr. Frank Alban MLA the member for Swan Hills who will be deputising for Premier, Colin Barnett.

Also we are in the process of tracking down some of the old members of the Gidgegannup Agricultural Society. A special marquee will be set up and we will invite those former members to join us and enjoy our hospitality on show day.

In terms of entertainment we will be staging the "Dog Olympics" in four shows on the main arena and on the Bush Verandah the Eco-Faeries will be performing for younger showgoers and will also be holding special workshops.

The band, Junkadelic who proved a hit at last year's show will return and it too will be holding instrumental workshops for children and then inviting them on stage to play with the band.

All of our other entertainers are returning and they will be loads of entertainment for young and old throughout the showgrounds.

We look forward to seeing you on show day, Saturday October 29th.

Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades · Media Release re Ferguson Report

A group of volunteer fire brigades, fire fighters, farmers and state emergency services volunteers are calling on the government for major reform of WA’s bush firefighting system, following a report into the management of this year's devastating Yarloop bushfires which found the current system for managing bushfires in Western Australia is failing citizens and government.

The group is calling for the formation of a properly resourced, independent, community-based Rural Bush Fire Service which is not controlled by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services. This fire service would be charged with re-establishing community capacity in fighting fires and enabling mitigation activities to be carried out.
