CWA · Update June 2016

Gidgegannup Primary School invited our President to their Anzac Day Service. Terrianne made a homemade wreath out of native leaves and 3 CWA knitted poppies. She laid the wreath with pride representing CWA. Terrianne reported the service was really good and a great job was done by the young bugler - well done everyone!

The ladies from the Hale Hostel in Melville came for the day and thoroughly enjoyed their home made lunch and outing.

Unfortunately our soap making was cancelled and has been re-scheduled for a later date.

Some of our members enjoyed a big morning tea for Cancer at Wundowie's "Silver Wings" club. Fantastic morning tea, endless amounts of food and great raffle prizes. All proceeds going to Cancer Research.

Our little red riding hood Shelley has been out and about again with her basket of goodies selling our wares. Also she delivered some nighties to the Anchorage Aged Care Centre at North Mindarie - she sure does get around. The residents loved the nighties - a nice comfort with the cold weather approaching.

We are all busy little bees at present gearing up for the Small Farm Field Day, Sunday 29th May. We will be having a lunch service of soup and bread roll from 11.30 - 1.30pm. Cost will be $4. Also our great scones with jam and cream, tea/coffee on offer all day. Our stall, along with our poppy display will be on the verandah of our hall which is situated just right inside the main gate. Our op shop will be in a marquee near our hall.

We have premie baby outfits, beanies have been re-stocked, blankets, shawls and ponchos, plus preserves and much more. We can't forget our homemade cakes etc. We are happy to take any orders.

If you have any queries please don't hesitate to call us.

Agricultural Society · Update June 2016

Its full speed ahead for this year's Gidge Show to be held on Saturday October 29th.

We're hoping that amateur photographers who are planning to exhibit in the Photography Section at this year's Gidgegannup Agricultural Show will continue to enter their own "selfies". In the Open Section exhibitors can submit two "selfies" while in the Children's Photography Sections, children aged 6 to 16 can enter up to five "selfies", with prize money for the best exhibits. The photography section is always well patronized with upwards of 300 exhibits.

The high number of groundspace applications has been very encouraging with our Chief groundspace steward, Steve Williamson, saying that applications are well ahead of last year at this time.

This year one of our major exhibitors, Trak Mach, will be providing something special for our 70th Anniversary Show.

Entertainment bookings are also going well and there will be plenty to interest young and old alike.

The Society will be meeting with engineers from the City of Swan shortly to discuss improvements to Burgo's Bar.

More Show news in the next Gidgegram.

To avoid false alarms and unnecessary callouts of your brigades:

CWA · Update May 2016

We trust everyone had an enjoyable and fun time with your children or grandchildren at Easter time.

One of our members came in with an idea in her head and went about packing a basketful of our shop goodies and headed off to the shop keepers in Gidge to show them what we make etc. They were all very impressed with our wares that everything was sold. Some of these ladies work so don't have the opportunity to visit us. In the basket were aprons, casserole holders, tea towels, childrens knitted head bands and preserves. What great initiative! Good work Shelley.

Our Hoy day went very well and everyone had a great time. Lots of oohs and aahs waiting for the last card to come out. CWA ladies came from Wanneroo, Bullsbrook and Melville branches.

We will be making soap early in May and some of these soaps will be for sale. If you are stuck for a Mother's Day gift, drop in. We just might have a lovely gift for your Mum.

End of April we are catering for a small group of ladies coming from Melville. I'm sure they will love the home made luncheon on offer.

Saturday 7th May, the City of Swan are holding a small get together in the Gidge Hall. Our shop will be opened in the morning, so pop in and have a look!

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or come to our hall on Wednesday 10 - 2pm.

If you would be interested in coming or have any more queries, please don't hesitate to call Lorraine on 9574 6335 or 0439 906 696, or Terrianne on 0435 394 157.

Agricultural Society · Update May 2016

With just six months to go to the 70 Anniversary Gidgegannup Agricultural Show the action is beginning to heat up.

The main arena looks fabulous after some excellent renovation work by the City of Swan. Not only will the improvements to the arena benefit the Show Society but will have ongoing benefits to the Pony Club which holds regular events at the Showgrounds.

Already there have been many enquiries about ground space and Head ground space steward, Steve Williamson says the numbers are looking good.

As far as entertainment is concerned many of the old favourites will be returning for this year's show and a major attraction is being organized for the main arena. Whilst we can't tell you exactly what it will be, we can tell you it's likely to be a "canine extravaganza".

We are already hard at work on the Show Schedule which will be available in August.

In the months leading up to our show on October 29th we will also be working on improvements to Burgo's Bar - I am sure showgoers and patrons will be impressed when they see the finished product.

Finally a get well message to our new President, Colin Metcalf. Colin hasn't been terribly well but is well and truly on the mend and will be back in the President's chair shortly.

We are still on the lookout for helpers, so if you'd like to volunteer a small portion of your time please ring Gloria or Colin Metcalf on 9574 6062.
