The Duchesses · Duchesses frock up to elect Gidgie's first Queen

It's official, Gidgegannup now has a Queen – the former Duchess of Par Avion, our postmistress of 16 years, Ann Williams.

In a secret ballot 23 local duchesses unanimously elected Queen Ann to reign over Gidgie for the next year.

The 'solemn' coronation ceremony was overseen by the Usher of the Burnt Stick (Colin Metcalf) and featured trumpet fanfares by the Duchess of Slide (Carol Salt).

Three foundation duchesses D. of Leicester (Angie Whife), D. of Dorset (Rose Cassidy) and D. of Dags (Ieva Tomsons) vied for the throne with a late unsuccessful bid by the D. of Dressage (Nerida Barnden-Brown) to be recognised as Gidgie's incumbent Queen.

After the Coronation the bejewelled duchesses enjoyed a sumptuous High Tea and formed an honour-guard to farewell Queen Ann and Consort Prince Alan who were spirited away in a sleek, long carriage.

For services to the successful Coronation the court recognises and gives thanks to: Paul Pernechele and Alan Scafte (Carriage Master and Footman); Lord Nick-Off, Peter Harms (Official Photographer); Young Lord Whipper-Snap, Tim Barnden-Brown (Official Portraiture); D. of Design, Sandra Harms (Coronial Stationery); The Usher of the Burnt Stick, Colin Metcalf (Court Marshalling); D. of Slide, Carol Salt (Coronial Overtures); Duchesses of Scone Shirley Robinson, Dressage Nerida Barnden-Brown and Leicester Angie Whife (Floral Flourishes) and D. of Wiltshire, Penny Morgan (Coronial Vestments).

Agricultural Society · Gidge Show Update

The Gidgegannup Agricultural Society Show books have now been printed and widely distributed throughout Gidgegannup, Midland and the Swan Valley.

As you are all aware the Gidgegannup Agricultural Society is comprised solely of volunteers who put a great deal of time and effort into presenting the Annual Show. Often our busiest time can be setting up the show on the Thursday and Friday preceding the show, so extra hands are always welcome. If you would like to volunteer this year simply turn up on Thursday October 29th or Friday October 30th to lend a hand. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Our Chief Groundspace Steward, Steve Williamson has been inundated with request for groundspace with a wide variety of stalls expected.

This year a special food and drink precinct has been created in the back paddock which will give showgoers a wide variety to choose from. And of course our local groups the Scouts and Junior Footy Club will have hamburgers and hot dogs in stall close to the Bush Verandah.

This year we have a very wide diversification of entertainment designed to attract children as well as adults. Burgo's Bush Bar will be in operation and there will be special entertainment there too.

This year's show is shaping up to be one of our best ever and we do hope you get the opportunity to pay us a visit on Saturday October 31st. You won’t be disappointed.

Media Liason/ Entertainment Coordinator
