Community Website · Newsletter May 2015

Peter Jensen our Chairperson/Treasurer has been busy carrying out a drastic spring clean of the Directory Section of the Community Website. Many businesses had moved or changed details, so he has been working his way through updating and sending out invoices. Thank you to all those people who have renewed their listing. This, and donations from user groups is our only income.

Thank you to all those groups who have updated their web pages on the site. This is important as the committee can’t do this for you and this is a free service to the groups. If you want to put further content such as newsletters, notification of events, etc., just send them in.

The community website is an important part of our community and we hope you are happy with it. Please let us know how we can improve it

If anyone feels they would like to join our committee they are most welcome. It is not a time consuming task as most of our meetings are by email. Perhaps you can contribute to this important showcase of our community.

Agricultural Society · News April 2015

Planning is well underway for the 2015 69th Annual Gidge Show to be held this year on Saturday October 31st.

The new committee chaired by new president, Gloria Metcalf, held its first meeting in early March and some new members were welcomed to the Committee.

Long time wool steward, Owen Snook, has joined the committee. He has been a stalwart of the show and his knowledge of the wool industry has gone a long way towards making the wool classes highly successful. Long time PA annnouncer, Pat Harding, has also joined the committee along with the newest lady member, Val Forrest, who comes from a rural background.

Showgoers to this year’s show will notice some changes at the showgrounds. The Shire of Swan is about to re-surface with bitumen an area from the main gate to the bar area. This means either side of the Ian Stannard pavilion down to the seating around the arena. This is expected to cut down the dust problem. It is expected the work will be carried out during April and after Easter. The Committee is also going to replace the Burgo’s Bar sign. Unfortunately the ravages of weather and white ants have taken their toll and a new sign will be erected in time for the 2015 Show.

In another first for the society, long term member and junior vice president, Gordon Caine, will take on the job of chief hall steward for the 2015 Show.

The Gidgegannup Show could not take place without its dedicated band of volunteers, BUT we are always looking for more help. Last year 8 thousand people attended the show and if you were one of them who enjoyed themselves why not get involved? We would love to see some new faces, particularly some of the younger variety. We are a very happy bunch and easy to work with, so if you’d like to come and help, ring our president, Gloria Metcalf, on 9574 6062. We’d love to hear from you.

Pat Harding,
Public Relations/Publicity and Entertainment Co-ordinator
