Recreational Club · News

Around the Gidgegannup Recreation Club.

The first part of this year has been a busy time around Percy Cullen Oval and the new buildings. After the opening by the City of Swan, an enormous amount of work still had to be completed in order to open all the facilities to the public. Teams using the oval and courts have been able to continue uninterrupted.

The committee has been active in ensuring all elements of the facility work correctly. We have also spent time purchasing all the things from chairs and tables to crockery, cleaning equipment to enable The Pavillion to function, and working out procedures and membership proposals. Hopefully these will be published in the next Gidgegram and we will be able to welcome all locals to become a member and enjoy the facilities.

It is important to remember that the Gidgegannup Recreation Club Inc is the exclusive manager of the facilities and looks after these for the community. The hard working committee is made up of volunteer representatives from the community and all the affiliated clubs. Funds raised go into maintaining the oval and courts as well as providing for further development of facilities.

We also lobby the City of Swan, State and Federal governments and others for funds and assistance to further enhance the range of activities we can offer. The Rec Club has also worked with the Red Hill Auditorium in a number of fundraising activities, which member clubs have benefited from.

Over the summer period Gidgegannup Men's Outdoor Cricket Team played in the Preliminary final and were looking ahead to the grand final but went down to Chidlow and missed out.

Gidgegannup Indoor Cricket Team had finished top of the ladder and made it through to the grand final, but in a tight game went down to a more determined opposition. The team has now played in the last 18 final series for an impressive 13 premierships.

Gidgegannup Basketball Club had a large number of teams in finals, and came away with swag of Premier and Runner up Pennants. A number of players were also awarded Most Valuable Player awards by the Hills Raiders Basketball Association.

Football Club · New Season

Another season of football is underway! The Bulldogs have been training hard since January putting in the hard yards in an effort to win a sixth successive HFA premiership. There are a lot of new young faces at the club this year who have brought youthful enthusiasm and a new energy. Also a big thanks to all our sponsors who are on board this season. Our sponsors are all named in the Footy Focus each week. Please support the businesses that support our football club as their financial support is invaluable. Moore MLA · Poor Mobile Coverage in Morangup

Member for Moore, Shane Love MLA lodged a submission to the Federal Government’s Mobile Coverage Program last month, outlining the constraints faced by those in Moore with poor and intermittent mobile coverage.

"I made particular mention of the locality of Morangup because of obvious risks in this district during the bushfire season. Landline telephones during the winter months can be unreliable, there are limited exit roads to the north and many competitors and spectators visit the area during the annual Avon Descent."

Submissions can no longer be lodged to the discussion paper, but mobile blackspot locations can be reported to the Federal Department of Communications at
