The Morgans · Claire's Night

Thursday 19th of December 6:30 onwards Fundraising Soirée at the Morgan’s House, 613 Copley-Dale Rad Gidgegannup. Call Jim or Penny on 9574 7211 or email.

Tickets: $50 per person pre-purchased. Includes wine, champagne, beer and finger foods. Great company – free. For those of you who can’t make it, your donations will still be gratefully received.

The cause: Our dear friend Claire, who many of you will remember from her days as elephant keeper extraordinaire is in need of our help.

As most of you will know, Claire has been battling with serious health issues for many years now. There is an opportunity for her to receive vital treatment at an 8-week course in Bali in January. Her parents have paid for the course of treatment, but the cost of boarding and lodging for the duration of the treatment was not included. Rather than ask her parents to cover this too, Claire has taken it on herself to fundraise. This soirée is our attempt to help.

It promises to be a night of friendship and fun and we have already had donations of amazing goods to auction or raffle on the night, including a mystery painting, a wildflower painting by local artist Jan Pittman, olive oil from Felicity’s Garden, a beautiful hand made quilt from Margaret Baxter, a week’s holiday accommodation in Kangaroo Island (travel fares not included), cartons of WA wines, 20 bales of oaten hay, and a two night stay at Bailup Downs Bed & Breakfast.

Progress Association · Speed Limits Toodyay Road

On Monday 16 December 2013 the existing speed limit of 70km/h will be reduced to 60km/h on Toodyay Road between Reserve Street and Old Coach Road. The existing 90km/h speed buffer zones will be reduced to 80km/h. In addition, the existing speed limit of 70km/h will be reduced to 60km/h along Bunning Road on the approach to the townsite.

The proposed changes will be implemented as part of Main Roads ongoing review of the speed limits in the metropolitan area.

“I could not be more pleased of the quick response we have delivered to this stretch of road in Gidgegannup. While speed limit changes are only a small part of our vision for Toodyay Road, and the joint Government-community committee is still working towards specific upgrades at five locations along a twelve kilometer stretch, it is an important first step and I commend Main Roads for implementing this during this calendar year” MLA Frank Alban said.

Further works are planned over the next four years, including upgrades of major intersections along the route, a review of signs and line-markings along Toodyay Road, and the installation of one-metre wide bitumen seal shoulders with rumble strips at critical points along the road where there have been single vehicle run-offs.
