Local Boys - Sean Corbin, Michael and Callum McCrudden, along with team mates from other hills areas, competed through the summer against 8 other teams and demonstrated that team work and determination can count for more than skill.

Bushfire Ready Action Group · Extension to Prohibited Burning Period

Bushfire Ready
The advice below was distributed to all volunteer bushfire brigades in the City of Swan today. What it means is our Fire Control officers are not permitted to issue burning permits before 29 April and there is a possibility this period may be extended further. Appropriate notices will be placed in newspapers etc. This notice highlights that summer dryness is still a major issue, despite cooler evenings and the possibility of rain, and that the fire risk remains very high.

"Due to the lack of rain the SDI (Soil Dryness Index) in our district is the highest recorded for many years, with this in mind we have decided to extend the Prohibited Burning Period for another 14 days within the City of Swan boundaries.

The prohibited burning period within the City of Swan has been extended by a further (14) days until midnight Tuesday, 28th April 2009."

This notice also highlights the need for all of us to maintain our fire prevention and preparedness strategies and to work with our neighbours to ensure streets and areas are afforded the maximum protection possible. A small number of people have contacted the BRG coordinators to form groups. Facilitators will commence street and property assessments with group members shortly. It is not too late to arrange your own groups and we have a number of facilitators who are available to work with Bushfire Ready Groups who would like our support.
