Experience Gidgegannup · Gidgegannup teams up with Dowerin

The Experience Gidgegannup Small Farm Field Days committee has secured the services of Dowerin Events Management to run its 2009 Small Farm Field Days event, to be held on June 7th 2009.

"The success of our 2008 was amazing," said Small Farm Field Days committee member Penny Morgan. "To grow the potential of this event, we have secured the services of Dowerin Events Management Inc, recognising their immense experience in running a major field day."

While the local committee will maintain ownership of the event, Dowerin Events Management will use its expertise to manage exhibitor participation, assist with marketing the event and provide advice with logistics.

"We are delighted with this partnership," said Marketing Manager Wendy Newman. "It enables us to use our knowledge of events management to support another rural community and ultimately the agricultural industry in WA. We have long recognised the huge growth of small landholders in WA and are very much looking forward to working with Gidgegannup to present a highly relevant, highly professional field day to this market."

West Gidge Fire Brigade · Fire Control Brochures

The recent brochures sent around Mundaring, Swan and Gidgegannup and surrounding areas are NOT associated with FESA, Swan, BRAG or any of the local volunteer fire brigades.

The person behind this is believed to be a former member of a local brigade, and he has used a logo very very similar to local groups.

They are also charging an exorbitant amount for their works, and enquiry by Swan and various members has revealed that they really offer only property maintenance service and they do not have the resources they imply they have to provide widespread protection of owners' properties during a major fire incident.

Please contact the West Gidge Brigade for further information.

Fire Brigades · Prohibited Burning Season

The Prohibited Burning Season is in force within the City of Swan from today, 1st Dec 2008 to at least 31st March 2008. It may be extended depending on seasonal conditions.

During this time ALL forms of buring in the open air are prohibited before 6pm on any day.

There are limited exceptions for small quantities of garden refuse after 6pm. Please be guided by the following as issued by the City of Swan Community Safety Branch. In particular burning should be discouraged where other means of disposal are available, or if stockpiling until next autumn is reasonable.

If you encounter anyone burning after 6pm, they must be complying with ALL the conditions below. If you believe the burning activity does not comply please call one of the Fire Control Officers for the area.
West Gidgegannup - John Mangini 9574 6289 - Michelle Zimmel 9578 3044
East Gidgegannup - Sean or Phil Corbin 9574 6071 - Vince Pullella 9574 6412
Note that John Eva is away until late Dec.

If the matter is of serious concern please dial 000 and report it.

Policy from City of Swan: The City of Swan does not encourage the burning off of one cubic metre of garden refuse after 6pm during the Prohibited Season due to the very nature of the activity and risk involved. It is however legal to do so under The Bush Fires Act 1954 provided the criteria below are met and the fire danger rating is not very high or extreme.
  • The pile of refuse does not exceed 1 cubic metre
  • An area of 5 metres wide is cleared around the pile
  • The fire is only lit between 6pm and 11pm, only one pile is alight at a time
  • The fire is extinguished by 12 midnight
  • At least 1 person is in attendance at all times
  • There is a means of extinguishing the fire available at all times
  • The Fire Danger Rating is not Very High or Extreme
  • The smoke from your fire does not cause a nuisance to neighbours and or traffic
  • Do not burn plastics, other household or commercial waste
  • Do not burn wet or green piles of material at any time as this will cause excessive smoke
  • (Household rubbish is not garden refuse).
