Agricultural Society · Update May 2018

While it may seem the Agricultural Society is having some down-time, behind the scenes the Committee has suggested amendments to the Show Schedule for 2018. These changes are being made to the Show Schedule document and also to our computer programme. Ground Space invitations have also been sent out to various recipients and show book advertisers are being sought.

2018 is the year the Nation commemorates 100 years since the end of WW1. The Society intends to honour those who made the supreme sacrifice from then until the present time. More on that subject in following editions of the Gram.

East Gidge Fire Brigade · Upgraded Fire Station

The much anticipated upgrade to the Fire Station commenced on the 1st of May 2017, and after a major renovation and expansion, it was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Kevin Bailey on the 25th of November 2017.

The station now proudly bears the name, The East Gidgegannup Volunteer Bush Fire Station.

The rebuild has meant that the Station is now fully equiped to house 5 fire appliances, and boasts a modern kitchen, meeting room, permit and communications office. The upgrade has meant that our requirements as a brigade servicing the community are met for many years to come.

Wildflower Society · Meetings

Saturday 12th May, Annual Plant Sale, 9am-2pm, Octagonal Hall 52 McGlew Road, Glen Forrest.

At this plant sale there will be hundreds of local plants grown by local enthusiasts who will be on hand to offer lots of advice. All plants are subject to rigid quality control, so they have well developed roots and will thrive in your garden. The plants are grouped in sizes, from ground covers, small, medium and large shrubs to climbers and trees. Starting at $2 they are a very economical way to start or develop your native garden.

Friday 25th May 7.30pm, Rafflesia & Knowledge of Other Parasitic Pplants, Octagonal Hall 52 McGlew Road, Glen Forrest.

Dr Neville Marchant has always had an interest in parasitic plants and travelled to Sumatra with some Kings Park Colleagues in the hope of seeing the flowering of an extremely smelly plant - Rafflesia arnoldii (often referred to as the Corpse Plant due to the smell it emits during its 3-6 days of flowering). They did in fact see this plant and Neville will share with us the journey, occasion and knowledge of our own parasitic plants. Visitors welcome. The usual $2 door fee applies. RSVPs necessary to 9294 1044 or to our new email address.

Playgroup · EMRC Grant

Gidgegannup Playgroup was very fortunate to apply and receive a grant through the EMRC Community Grants Program.

We received funds that enabled our playgroup to purchase four new colourful tables and extra craft supplies. Our children love to create their crafts around these tables and interact with all their friends. Our playgroup would like the thank EMRC for the opportunity. We appreciate your help and support provided to the community.

Gidgegannup Playgroup would also like to invite you and your families to come and join in on the fun. We are open Wednesdays 9-11am during the school term. Everyone is welcome to come along with their children aged 0-4. Mums/dads can have a cuppa and a chat while the children enjoy the many activities that are on offer. Bikes, games, puzzles, dress-ups, obstacle courses, books and craft are just some of the fun options.
