The Gidgegannup Agricultural Society hope all our readers had an enjoyable and safe festive season.
The Society had a productive 2017 with the refurbishment of Burgo's Bar completed. We were very pleased that Jan Burgess accepted our invitation to officially open the facility on show day, travelling up from Bridgetown to do so. Much appreciated Jan.
In October, the Show proved to be another success. Attendance was up on the previous year while entries in the competitive Sections were on a par or better than the previous 4-5 years. Again many volunteers provided assistance for which we are very grateful and appreciative.
This brings me to the fact that many Committee Members who have dedicated themselves to the Society for many years, are not getting any younger. The Society needs an injection of younger folk to help relieve the workload on the more elderly. More hands make light work. Please don't be shy - make yourself known.
Committee Members this year suffered from all sorts of personal and family difficulties. For the first time in my memory one scheduled Committee meeting was deferred due to lack of a quorum. These things paced a heavier burden than usual on other members but all that needed doing, got done. Many thanks to all.
May we also thank the Editor of the Gidgegram, Sandra Harms, for her work during the past year. Very recently, following discussions with her, it is intended to post the entire monthly Gidgegram issue on the Community Web site. The usual printed and posted copies will continue. Click here to view or download the February 2018 Gidgegram.
With this first issue for 2018, may we wish everyone a wonderful year.

Toodyay Redhill Convict Road Station Ruins, a once-substantial establishment built of mud bricks to house convict work crews, has cultural heritage significance for the following reasons:
- the place is one of only a very limited number of clearly identified convict sites of this type, and at present is the only road station to have been adequately surveyed;
- the place is historically associated with the convict system, and with the Royal Engineers and convict road gangs who constructed and maintained the important road link between Perth and Toodyay.
